Desert Island discs scuba style

Tommy Sykes will never be on Desert Island Discs! Today it is desert island discs scuba style. So who is Tommy Sykes? Well this is his short bio, and 5 (I will never be on Desert Island discs) song choices.

I grew up a bit of a troubled soul. Was always bending if not breaking the rules. Not much of a traditional education (due to rarely attending school). Moved out of the family home as soon as I was earning a wage and from then lived in numerous shared houses with a wide array of all societies’ waifs and strays. But all in all a very socially dynamic time. Went to Australia when I turned 20, for no particular reason at all and spent numerous nights in some deluxe roofless accommodations. Discovered a passion for the water.louise-photo Scrimped and saved from job to job. Took my scuba instructors course. I now do and teach a job I absolutely love. Not wealthy, but I rise with the sun every day, and the Blue World is my paradise. The motto of my story is you don’t need a formal education to have a great life

Here are my choices:-

1. This Blue World –Elbow Only recently became aware of this. When im not under the water, shut my eyes listen to this and instantly feel at peace with the world.
2. Theme from Jaws- John Williams Ever since I first see this film and heard the iconic theme, was fascinated by this amazing creature to the point of being up close and personal.
3. Down Under – Men at Work: My adopted home, and nothing says Australian culture than this. Still as funny as the first time I heard it.
4. Fourth Rendezvous – Jean Michelle Jarre: An absolute genius. Complete mind transitional music.
5. Thunderstruck – ACDC: Not because they are Australian, just excellent fist pumping rock n’roll. Totally mind blowing live.

Well that’s Tommy’s choices. Please comment below. Better still comment below and tell me your short bio and 5 music choices. I will happily publish them. If you love Music. Show the love here!

Tanya Garner will never be on Desert Island Discs!

Tanya Garner will never be on Desert Island Discs! So who is Tanya Garner? Well her short bio, and 5 ‘I will never be on desert Island discs’ choices are below. What are yours?

Hi, I’m Tanya Garner. I was born into a loud, wild and raucous family, My parents were very socially active, with a wide group of friends that I see so frequently, it felt that they almost lived with us. Don’t remember any standardized mealtimes or bedtimes and even though they are still a little radical and off the wall, they managed to mould me into a pretty cool balanced woman. images63MNJ661I grew up with 2 brothers and a sister and although my parents never seemed to do the same job for any prolonged period, they worked hard to provide for us. I was into everything! Loved school and being around people as well as all the extracurricular stuff such as sports, music as well as dabbling in most religions at some point or another. I had tons of friends growing up and socializing took precedence over education. However, I managed to graduate with some above average exam results, and set off to university where I earned a degree in fine art. After university I immediately bypassed 9-5 and went solo travelling worldwide. Having to be self-sufficient taught me the importance of being independent, throughout my life. As an adult, I work on freelance art and design contracts. I am the direct opposite of a materialist. I earn, I play and repeat. Growing up with a free thinking family instilled the wild, fun and carefree characteristics in me, and I make sure to have fun each and every day. So I guess I am very much a product of my parent’s upbringing, and I love them for that.

Here are my choices:-

1. Kiss, Kiss by Tarkan: Heard this virtually on loop when travelling in Turkey, don’t know if this is the original or not, but this was the sound of that Turkish summer and can just remember dancing insanely to it.

2. Love Shack by The B52’s: Basically this is the house I was brought up in always a party, always singing and dancing, and this song sums it up.

3. Sailing by Rod Stewart: Spent a lot of my life travelling especially on the water. For me this song cries freedom.

4. Air by Johan Sebastian Strauss: University and the arts obviously is something that has stayed with me. This symbolizes just joy and peace,

5. The Escapist by The Streets: Ok, there is a theme here. But for me this is travel and the delicate precious nature of life.

Well that’s Tanya’s choices. Please comment below. Better still comment below and tell me your short bio and 5 music choices. I will happily publish them. If you love Music. Show the love here!

I will never be on Desert island Discs setlist.

Since I will never be on Desert Island Discs. Let’s set my format and mix it up and make it very simple format, shortened from the traditional 8 songs to 5. IMG_8452This is because I know how valuable your leisure/social time is. If your story is enriching, engrossing, funny, sad of a jamboree of all human emotions. Just recall the song that links that memory and bring the stories to life through your musical choices and I’ll be happy to publish them.
I’ve put some examples here, just to give you an idea.

Ray Winstone: The drugs don’t work by the verveA memory of his mum who is terminally ill with cancer. The song epitomizes the sheer desperation that nothing can preserve her life.

Keith Richards: My True story by Aaron Neville
In Keith’s opinion one of the greatest soul singers, and one of the best do wop songs ever made, and he played guitar on it.

George Clooney: Another Brick in the wall by Pink FloydVery purest. If your going to be on a desert island, why not have a group singing about retaliation and revolution.

John Malkovich: Kentucky Avenue by Tom Waits
A childhood memory of drunk on Kentucky avenue that used to lay down in the town square, and the children used to throw bottles at him. this was just how it was!

Ricky Gervais: Anarchy in the UK by Sex PistolsA memory of buying the album “never mind the bollocks” and thinking it was great. But even now stands out as a powerful thought provoking song.

Ewan McGregor: Amazing grace
Being a proud scot and having a song that has passed from his father to himself, and it still rips a tear from his eye.

I have attempted to put a wide spectrum of music across these examples. I have also put a link to the episodes and the track itself.

Whether its growing up, Bizarre incidents, Marriages, funerals or just plain old memories and reminiscing. We all have a story in us, and we all have music in our lives. Whatever neural pathway has been sub-consciously set up, that piece of music can instantly evoke that memory.
Since, let’s face it Desert Island Discs is very elitist, There is a very high probability I will never be on desert Island discs, and likewise you neither.image But we live in a world of the internet, Social Media. Why shouldn’t your story be heard? Everybody has a story who is to say it is or isn’t more interesting than someone who have received plaudits for there works. This world survives and evolves due to 99.99% of us that don’t receive the glory or fame. This doesn’t make us any more or less worthy to tell our story. So tell yours!

The goal of this project is to share your music, your experience with the world. There are people out there that will adopt what you have done, enjoy the music choices you have provided. In this we free exposure to those very musical artists. We give free exposure to you! your goals, your ambitions, your life story. But nobody does anything for free, right?

Well I’m no different in that. But put your wallet away. I want this project to establish itself as a blog. Then establish it self as a podcast…….Then who knows maybe the universe. But in order to do that I need you to share. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Your email contacts… lets get this out to as many people as humanely possible.
